Summary:
In this thesis, I will study the musical genre of Rai, in its place of origin, in Algeria, and then in France where it was brought by the Algerian immigrants. In these countries, I will examine the connection of the particular kind of music with the political and social conditions during the beginning of the 20th century, until its end. Also, an attempt will be made to answer four research questions. Finally, the conclusions from the examination of the above questions will follow, in order to establish the connection with the social and political conditions of the era of Rai music, but also any new questions that will arise from this research.
