Summary:
This master thesis is a study on the presence of figures of speech in ecclesiastical texts of the 18th century. It aims to prove that figures of speech can be found in a wide and diverse range in the ecclesiastical texts of intellectual people of that era, when the clergy had undertook the education of the Greek nation. The original texts come from the preacher Ilias Miniatis and the monk Akakios Diacrousis. Firstly, the theoritical part of the study is presented, which talks about ecclesiastical rhetoric, the authors of the texts, the category of rhetoric called elocutio and the classification of the figures of speech that were studied. Secondly, questions on the study are posed and the methodology of the analysis is explained. Then, a detailed review of the figures follows while citing quotes from the original texts and commenting on them. Finally, the frequency of the figures is presented in tables and graphs and results are discussed on them.
