Summary:
Introduction: The emergence of hospitals is a turning point in the history of healthcare in the Western world. These institutions were not only places of patient care, but were at the same time centers for the development of medical knowledge and the training of new generations of health professionals. The evolution of human society has turned hospitals into complex and complex health care centers while at the same time increasing the demands of citizens and workers for improved services. The continuous improvement of the quality of services has become an important issue for modern hospitals. "Quality circles" are a quality management methodology widely used at all levels of healthcare systems in developed countries in the West. Although "quality circles" are widely accepted in improving healthcare at the hospital level their effectiveness has not been evaluated.
Purpose and methodology: A descriptive review of the international literature was conducted in the PubMed electronic database of MEDLINE, in order to investigate the role and contribution of the "quality cycle" as a tool for process management and problem solving in the operation of modern hospitals.
Results-Conclusions: The main conclusion of the study was that the implementation of "quality circles" in hospitals has a positive impact on whatever level of staff functioning is used. Also, the application of the method improved the care and satisfaction of patients during their hospitalization.
