The regime of military pensions and the perspective of a new architecture
Summary:
The subject of this thesis is military pension system. It describes in detail how the pension system of the military has evolved from 1951 to the present, in terms of pension benefits and contributions, age limits and pensionable years of service. It also investigates the connection between demobilization and retirement and how this relationship has a profound effect on the context of hierarchy, development and promotions in the Greek Armed Forces. At the same time, it examines the differences in the service status of the military from the status of other civil servants and private sector employees. It includes a self-contained section that analyzes the current service and pension framework for the military in the US and the UK. Finally, specific proposals are submitted regarding the perspective of the evolution of the legal framework for military retirement in Greece.
