Interactive music in video games and its effect on user experience
Summary:
In this thesis, refers the effect that the sound and music of video games has on the user/player. Their evolution over the years, from their first appearance until nowadays, is examined, both historically and musically. Particular emphasis is placed on the way in which the image interacts with the music-sound that surrounds them.
According to the latest research, it is concluded that music is a key factor for the performance of the user/player in the game, significantly affecting his emotions.
Finally, a case study is implemented in which professional and non-professional gamers are asked to answer questions about the influence of video game music/sounds throughout the game. In this experiment, two questionnaires are listed. The first is answered by both groups -professional and non-professional players-, while the second only by the professionals. From the answers given it is usually clear that the music/sound has a significant effect on the user/player.
