Intra-abdominal hypertension and acute renal failure.
Summary:
Introduction : Intra-abdominal hypertension, is a condition that can affect the function of the organs in operated or non-operated patients. The kidneys, mainly due to their anatomical location, are particularly vulnerable to intra- abdominal hypertension, making it a possible cause of acute renal failure.
Material and method : Google Scholar and PubMed articles were searched between June and August 2022. The terms 'intra-abdominal hypertension', 'intra-abdominal pressure', 'acute kidney injury', 'abdominal compartment syn- drome' and 'intensive care unit' as well as combinations of these terms were used. The review included observational studies in an adult population with intra-abdominal hypertension presenting with acute renal failure, which were published from 2012 onwards in the Greek or English language.
Results : A total of 8 articles were studied due to the lack of available articles that meet the criteria of this research and the sample of all consisted of 414 people. A clear correlation was found between intra-abdominal hypertension and acute renal failure.
Conclusions : The association of intra-abdominal hypertension and acute re- nal failure, through available research, is clear, making intra-abdominal hyper- tension an independent factor in the development of acute renal failure and a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients.
