MMOs ως παιχνίδια για καλό: Ευαισθητοποίηση για τα στερεότυπα φύλου και τη ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ κοινότητα
Translated title:
MMOs as games for good: Gender and LGBTQ+ stereotype sensitivity
Summary:
This thesis examines the potential of MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online games) as games for Good. Specifically, it examines the games themselves in their various dimensions, recreational, educational, economic, psychological and social, proving through the bibliographic research their great potential to produce cultural significance. It also presents various negative aspects of games and online gaming with an emphasis on gender stereotypes and the social behavior of players. Through a quantitative research and a qualitative one, it highlights on the one hand the problems that women and LGBTQ+ people identify in their representation by games and in their relationship with the gaming community, and on the other hand the mental and emotional dynamics that players in general consider that they develop through games. Proving that games can be used for Good, not only from the point of view of their use in teaching and collaboration, but also from the point of view of the positive psychology of positive social behaviors and awareness against negative gender stereotypes, it concludes with a proposal for the Good that concerns women and LGBTI+ people.
