The interventionist consciousness in Bertolt Brecht’s thinking and stage practice
Summary:
The problem of interventionist consciousness consists a matter of philosophical interest. Brecht seems to address the problem in a coherent philosophical methodology. Within the definition of the term of "eingreifendes Denken", our intention is to investigate its implications on the philosophical problem of consciousness and activity. Brecht's thinking provides a great amount of texts, which offers a wide but not systematically organised range of philosophical responses on mind and praxis to contemporary reader. Based on ontological, cognitive and sociological theoretical disciplines, Brecht has a significant philosophical content. Extracting these theoretical disciplines, contemporary study can examine Brecht's philosophical engagement to dialectical matterialism and its extentions on aesthetics, political and sociological theory. This dissertation sheds light on the theatrical work and thinking of Brecht's, attempting to investigate its philosophical cornerstones. The object of this dissertation is a marxist philosophical approach on the problem of consciousness and social activity, as it is appreciated and diffused in brechtian work. Originating from the terminology of eingreifendes Denken, the dissertation aims at a reconstruction of a theory for social intervention.
