Summary:
Two factors that greatly affect physical condition and have a direct relationship with performance in the sport of football are speed and agility. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between linear sprinting and change of direction in male football players. The study involved 15 amateur male football players with an average age of 24.4 ± 5.50 years. Measurements included assessing the players' time in a 20-meter acceleration test, as well as their time in the 505 and Illinois agility tests. The statistical Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data and examine whether the results of the 20-meter acceleration, 505, and Illinois tests were correlated with each other. The results showed a high correlation between the 20-meter acceleration test and the 505 agility test (r = 0.81, p < 0.05), while a high correlation (r = 0.62, p < 0.05) was also found between the 20-meter acceleration test and the Illinois test, contrary to international literature. Finally, a significant correlation (r = 0.61, p < 0.05) was found between the two agility tests, 505 and Illinois. In conclusion, the findings of this study indicate that all correlations have high statistical significance.
