Women and Advertising; Presentation of women through advertisements in Greece in the 1950s
Summary:
The 1950-1960 decade is a period where many changes took place in the political, economic and social fields in Greece. The country, after the riots of the previous decade, managed to recover and develop in many sectors. One of the sectors that experienced great growth during the same period is that of advertising. At the same time, women acquire a series of rights and manage to become independent. These two junctures are connected at the point where women, having entered the public sphere, are the main target of advertisements. Advertisements themselves, in addition to the fact that they offer useful information about the advertised products, at the same time reflect everyday life. Thanks to this function of theirs, we can have an image of how women are presented in Greece in the 1950s directly through them.
