European Integration under the prism of the Theory of Constructivism

Summary:

The present paper aims to study European integration in the light of constructivism
theory. First, an analysis of constructivism as a social theory is carried out. Then, the
focus turns to International Relations and the interpretation of the international society
of states. Then, the constructivist turn in European Studies and the idea of the social
construction of the European Union are studied. Finally, the contribution of
constructivism to the understanding of post-national European society and identity, as
well as its discourse dynamics, which describe and constitute the European Union, is
discussed.
