Effects of screen use on toddler's and infant's language and sensorimotor development
Summary:
In recent decades there has been a rapid increase in the use of screens by children of all ages. Today's generation of children is the first generation to grow up in a digital media environment from birth. It is a fact that the time spent on screens has replaced the time that could be spent on behaviours that positively affect development (socialization, physical activity, reading a book, etc.). The issue of exposure is a public health concern, as exposure begins in early childhood, which is a sensitive period for later development. This systematic review aims to investigate the changes that occur in brain function due to screen use during infancy and early childhood. Language and sensorimotor development are two of the developmental domains based on brain function that were chosen to be presented.
