Prevention and response strategies for bioterrorism
Summary:
In this thesis, some issues are examined in relation to bioterrorism. Various definitions are
given that will introduce us to the subject, what exactly we are talking about and what exactly
we are dealing with. The main biological agents that could be used as bioweapons are
analyzed as well as the symptoms that follow after exposure to the victims, and finally the
incubation times of the diseases caused by the microbes and toxins are also given. Ways and
points are mentioned which would help us in characterizing an event as bioterrorism attack.
As well as the ways bioterrorists use to transmit the microorganisms, the most dangerous
methods are mentioned. In the following, some historical events where such microorganisms
were used, as well as how they were used from prehistory until today, are mentioned. But the
most basic and the most important part of the thesis is the strategies for prevention and
response in such incidents.
