EU and the Balkans: problems, relations and prospects for integration
Summary:
In this bachelor's thesis is attempted a detailed analysis of the link between
in the EU and the states of the Western Balkans that wish to become its members.
In trying to understand the physiognomy of the Balkan states
a presentation of the problems and weaknesses is made at a first level
facing each state as well as a bipartite record
differences, which lends more evidence to the effort to
understand the character of each state. Beyond the basic structural
issues that respond at a political, economic or even social level,
secondary issues are also noted which play their own role
in shaping the profile of these countries. The relationship
of the Balkan states with the EU is then analyzed, what level the negotiations are at
with each side, what objections are expressed within the Union, which
conditions remain to be met and what is the real significance of the area
for the EU. At the same time, concerns are expressed about whether the Union will eventually manage to bridge the gap and if so what will the cost be
for her very future. The third chapter is devoted exclusively to
discussion of possible enlargement and the role is highlighted among other things
of Greece within this context with the emphasis being placed on how useful
will be such a development for our country while at the same time a report is made
and to the partners and how they translate the possible integration of D.
Balkans. Finally, it is mentioned that the prospect of integration could grant the region itself the role of "security provider" with the EU considering
strongly this possibility within the general framework of the regional policy
which usually follows.
