The Greek folk song as part of text sets and its impact on the teaching practice
Summary:
In this study we intend to investigate how a Greek folk poem will be approached in a classroom, if it is included in a text set connected to open and contemporary texts and approached through the method of interpretative dialogue. The research questions of the study were formulated as follows: Can students' interest in folk poems be renewed if they are approached through interpretive dialogue and text networks? Can the folk poem also behave (partially) as an open text by approaching it with the method of interpretative dialogue and through its conversation with contemporary and open texts within text sets? The theoretical framework of the research is based on the characteristics of Greek folk poetry, the concepts of open and closed texts, the aims and practices of interpretive dialogue and text networks. For the collection of the research data, we chose the method of structured non-participatory observation and questionnaire design. In terms of observation we used a properly designed observation protocol and made detailed field notes. The observation protocol data were analyzed using descriptive statistics while the questionnaire data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results suggest that through text sets and interpretive dialogue, a folk poem was able to engage and stimulate students' interest, while points were highlighted that favored the development of dialogue and interpretations.
