The Immortality of the Soul and the Problem of Evil in Gregory of Nyssa’s On the Soul and the Resurrection

Throughout the course of philosophy, the involvement of Christianity in philosophical thought has not been anything but marginal. In Western Civilization, from the moment Christianity as a religion prevailed, Western philosophers have directly or indirectly taken and are taking a stand on doctrinal issues that fall within the scope of their interests. From a philosophical point of view, of particular interest is Gregory of Nyssa, who tried to defend the Christian doctrine against theories put forward by ancient Greek philosophy.
In this context, the present thesis, recognizing that it is practically impossible to study the full range of Gregory Nyssa's theological-philosophical thought, focuses on two concepts, which are of central importance for Christianity: the immortality of the soul and the problem of evil. The study focuses on his work On the Soul and Resurrection, which allows for an examination of the two concepts in the rest of his work, as well as of related concepts such as Paradise, the Devil, etc.
