Autonomous Hybrid All Electric Ship and Renewable Energy Sources
Summary:
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to review possible ways of applying Telemetry and Control to the main steering and propulsion systems of a ship so that she becomes autonomous.
Also is presented a completely basic initial design model of hybrid propulsion and power generation, which can be used to optimize a ship's operation by incorporating renewable energy sources.
This ship will have an integrated Electric Propulsion System, which combines hybrid technology, batteries and generators, while its optimal energy efficiency is achieved through a DC network. This innovative ship will also be able to operate autonomously, with remote control and without the presence of a crew, having intelligent systems that provide the possibility of autonomous navigation planning, avoiding collisions as well as carrying out tasks by remote control.
An overview of the significant programs under development for the implementation of the Autonomous Ship is also ventured, as is the future development in maritime transport with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence methods by the shipping community
