Saint Gregory's of Nyssa teaching about grace and its significance for neptic life
Summary:
According to orthodox Christian teaching, divine grace is an energy common to the Holy Trinity, although it is literally the sanctifying energy of the Holy Spirit. Without it, the redemptive work of the Savior remains inactive and unfulfilled. In the salvation of man the role of God's grace is primary. Nevertheless, human cooperation is a necessary condition for salvation. The term "nipsis" belongs to Orthodox spirituality, by which the dynamic state of the believer progressing in virtue in general and especially in the inner life in Christ is marked, who has reached a point, always with the help of divine grace, to have complete control on his passions. Saint Gregory of Nyssa was extremely sensitive to neptic issues, with the result that in his work, of eminently doctrinal importance, there are significant references to neptic life.
