Management nursing methods of stomatitis at childrren with cancer

Mucositis is an important side effect seen in patients undergoing cancer treatment, leading to a variety of effects, such as pain, inability to feed, weight loss, and non-adherence to anticancer therapy.
The purpose of this work is to investigate the nursing management methods of mucositis, which is a consequence of anticancer treatment in minor patients.
The applied research method was the qualitative and specifically the systematic literature review. The sample of the research consisted of 22 primary studies, which had been published from 2010 to 2024 and related to stomatitis in a juvenile cancer patient population. The survey was conducted from December 2023 to February 2024.
The results of the research showed that there is a fragmentation of the research regarding the management methods of dealing with mucositis in children with cancer. However, it has been found that the use of lasers for the effective treatment of mucositis has aroused the interest of the scientific community, as it has been found to reduce pain and increase healing time. Several studies have also focused on the use of herbal medicines to limit pain, speed healing, limit the severity of mucositis and even prevent it. It is recommended to conduct wider investigations in large samples of children with cancer, to confirm the results of both the present and previous investigations.
