Summary:
The work focuses on assessing flood phenomena and improving safety in modern cities. Includes information and research on the subject of flooding and urban safety, recent flood phenomena, their impacts, management strategies, and efforts to prevent and respond to them in modern cities.
Historical reference is made to the phenomenon of flooding as a crucial issue for understanding the phenomenon in cities and the changes that have occurred over time.
The thesis introduces the concept of flooding, defines what flooding is, the different types of flooding and interprets the factors that contribute to flooding, with a focus on modern cities.
Recent flood events that have affected modern cities are captured and case studies or examples of cities that have experienced severe flooding, their consequences and lessons learned are recorded.
An important part of the work is the recording of flood risk factors in urban environments by mapping - within urban environments - topography, proximity to water bodies, drainage systems and wider infrastructure.
Discrete analysis is sought, on how to deal with flooding and the combined efforts required by cities, governments, and communities. Safety measures that can be taken to reduce risk and increase the safety of modern cities are outlined.
