Screening of a psychometric properties of a vocational interests scale in a adolescence sample
Summary:
This study presents the course of investigation and psychometric documentation of an
instrument that counts vocational interests. It is based on the Holland’s theory (RIASEC)
about the six types of vocational personalities. It is all about the Questionnaire of Vocational
Interests which is composed of sixty items. During the stage of the pilot survey, 382 teenagers
from all over Greece answered to the initial version of it, made by 120 items. By using the
Exploratory Factor Analysis 10 items of each factor of the professional personalities were
chosen. The psychometric characteristics considered to be sufficient. In order to evaluate the
reliability of the scale, Cronbach’s alpha (α > 0,816) and McDonald’s omega (ω > 0,819). As
far as the confirmation of the structure of the scale, an already existing tool was used as a
validation criterion. It appeared correlation index r > 0,796. The construct validity was
confirmed by the overall correlations with the five personality factors, absence of correlations
with decision-making self-efficacy, as well as career goals.
