Early Trauma, Individual Differentiation and their Rrelationship to Attachment Type in Young Adult Interpersonal Relationships
Summary:
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between early trauma, individual differentiation and the type of attachment that occurs in young adulthood. A further aim is to highlight the importance of trauma and its relationship to individual differentiation/diffusion in light of Murray Bowen's systems theory. The theoretical framework is based on systems theory and in particular on M. Bowen's intergenerational systems approach. The metric tools used are a) a demographic questionnaire combined with impromptu questions about the intergenerational transmission of some early trauma, b) the “Differentiation of Self Inventory” (DSI) (Skowron & Friedlander, 1998· Skowron et al., 2009· Kouroupaki, 2023), c) the “Early Trauma Inventory - Self Report, short form, ETISR- SF” (Prekka, 2017) and d) the “Revised Experiences in Close, Relationships Scale” (Brennan et al., 1998· Prekka, 2017). Through the results of the research, it was shown that early trauma is associated with low individual differentiation, as well as attachment anxiety in young adults.
