Summary:
The present thesis is carried out in the framework of my postgraduate studies at the
department of Philosophy of the Kapodistrian University of Athens and it attempts to
address the issue of the relationship between climate change and animal ethics. Climate
change is negatively affecting the entire planet and its effects extend to the livelihood of
animals threatening their rights. In some cases animals are threatened with extinction and in
others their ecosystems are threatened and forced to adapt to other conditions. The
relationship between humans and animals is being put to the test, since it is mainly human
activity that is causing climate change. The realisation on the part of man that his quality of
life is interdependent and in constant interaction with the environment will lead to his
efforts to tackle the problems he has created. Environmental ethics, and with it animal
ethics, should be of particular concern to humanity, as it should realise that humans are not
the only inhabitants of this planet.
