Stray Pet Management Programs by Municipalities in collaboration with volunteers. The example of the Municipality of Nice - Agios Ioannis Rentis

Stray animals, their well-being, the limitation of their population, the observance of public health rules are major issues that the Municipalities of our country are now called upon to manage institutionally with the assistance of animal-loving volunteers on a practical and moral level. The new law for the management of stray companion animals obliges the Municipalities to develop Operational Programs with specific and measurable objectives that can now be achieved with the help of volunteers and animal welfare associations. Some municipalities, even before this possibility is given by law, cooperate with the voluntary potential of their city in areas such as feeding, care and sterilization of stray pets. One such example is the Municipality of Nikaia- Agios Ioannis Rentis, which despite the problems and shortages in personnel and financial resources, has managed to develop a fruitful collaboration with the city's volunteers. The Municipality's program, its actions for stray pets, the actions of the volunteers, their cooperation, the problems of this cooperation and its results are studied in this research in view of the Operational Plan of the Municipality which will be implemented in the middle of 2024.
