Intelligence Services in gray zone operations and new military technologies in the modern geopolitical environment of the S.E. Mediterranean
Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the four most important Intelligence Services of the countries of the Southeast Mediterranean, namely Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. After first making a historical review of the world of espionage and these Services, the method of Systemic Geopolitical Analysis, as introduced by Professor Mazis, will be used as the safest and most innovative method of drawing conclusions.
The Geopolitical Pillars of power that were chosen to be the basis of the study are the Defense/Security Pillar and the Policy Pillar, since they, mainly, shape the dynamics of states in terms of defining their national security doctrine. Moreover, based on these, the corresponding indicators were also sought, such as for example the percentage of defense expenditure on the total GDP of each country, the establishment of each political doctrine, the composition of these Services, etc.
Finally, a comparison is made between these states, in terms of the importance they attribute to their military and Intelligence Services, in order to draw conclusions about which state would have a greater advantage in cases of conventional warfare, as well as hybrid war.
