Quality of life of patients after liver transplantation
Summary:
Liver transplantation from living or deceased donors is performed worldwide in patients with chronic liver failure. Nevertheless, in the postoperative period, patients face several issues, including problems related to daily activities, transplant complications, and treatment with immunosuppressive therapy, which could negatively affect their quality of life. Therefore, in the first section of this study, liver transplantation and the scales to assess the quality of life are examined. Additionally, findings of previous studies that examined the quality of life in liver transplant recipients are analyzed.
Aim: The assessment of the quality of life of patients after liver transplantation
Method-Material: A bibliographic review was performed on the Google Scholar, CENTRAL, EMBASE, Pub-Med databases with language restriction, articles in English and with time restriction from 2017 to present with restriction on the type of studies, use of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort (Cohort ). The total number of studies that were included using the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis tool is 17. The Review Manager – RevMan 5.3 risk of Bias Tool was used to check the studies.
Results: The results of the studies showed that patients after liver transplantation show an improvement in the quality of life even after 10 years. Factors affecting the quality of life are mainly psychosocial except in cases of specific diseases.
Conclusions: Patients after liver transplantation experience a great improvement in quality of life as reported by most studies.
