Summary:
Introduction: Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) constitutes a common disorder among people who have experienced a traumatic event and which can, significantly, deteriorate their health and quality of life. Cannabis and cannabinoids have gained the interest of the researchers as a possible alternative and effective therapy for PTSD patients.

Methodology: The present systematic review was conducted by searching the online databases Scopus and PubMed, while the inclusion and exclusion criteria set were language and year of publication, study design and relevance the research aim.
Results: Thirteen studies have been reviewed. Most of them indicated that cannabis use by PTSD patients can significantly mitigate PTSD symptomatology, while others reported either a temporary effect or a deterioration of PTSD symptoms.
Conclusions: More studies must be conducted, especially randomized controlled trials, in order to draw definite conclusions on the safety and effectiveness of cannabis as a therapeutic tool for PTSD patients.
