Analysis of the level of well-being in cases of stray dogs with leishmaniasis in areas of Attica.
Summary:
This thesis deals with the analysis of the level of well-being in stray dogs with leishmaniasis from four municipalities of Attica, which are housed in the facilities of the Hellenic Philanthropic Society in Koropi, Attica where I work as a veterinarian. Leishmaniasis is a frequent infectious and contagious disease in our country, which together with other Mediterranean countries are characterized as endemic areas. The disease is making a strong appearance in areas of Northern Europe where previously there were no reports of cases, which makes it necessary to have a deeper understanding of the condition, especially with regard to adoptions promoted from endemic countries like ours. The phlebotomus is the insect responsible for spreading the disease. The paper will analyze epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic data concerning the disease and general information that will be drawn from Greek and international studies by scientific groups. Reference will also be made to the provisions of the legislation regarding the treatment of leishmaniasis, but also in general for the organization of the structures that host companion animals. The main body of the work includes clinical cases of dogs with details of their clinical and laboratory indications as well as the therapeutic tactics followed and the response of the animals to them. Special mention will also be made of the handling of these animals by the competent five-member committees of the competent municipalities in terms of their reintegration, their adoption or their euthanasia for reasons of an irreversible situation. Finally, a quantification of the conclusions will be attempted for a better understanding of the subject of this work.
