Summary:
This thesis entitled "We are women with our everything: Women's claims and rights in Greece in the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century" focuses on the evolution of women's rights in the 19th and 20th centuries, a period of significant social, political and economic changes. The preface presents the objectives of the work, which are none other than the investigation of the legal status of women's rights, their access to education, their participation in the labor market and the position of women in the family. The first chapter describes the path from inequality to the establishment of the first rights in women's education. The perceptions and concerns around women's education are analyzed, while there is also talk about the consolidation of "separate" education for girls. The second chapter examines women's participation in the labour market, working conditions and the health of working women. It describes the evolution of women's work over the years and the challenges women faced, while testimonies of retired women confirm what is written. The third chapter discusses the position of women in the family and society, and specifically the domestic economy, emotional relationships in the family and women's everyday life within it. In conclusion, the epilogue summarizes women's struggle for rights that men took for granted. It highlights women's resilience and determination for equality and recognizes the continued need for progressive and just change, concluding that women have proven their ability to assert and conquer their rights despite the difficulties and social perceptions that have often stood in the way.
