Summary:
In the work described in this Thesis, the electrocatalytic evolution of hydrogen (HER) by two complexes of the Co(II)S2Cl2 type, S = thiosemicarbazone, is explored. The electrocatalytic activity of the two complexes is compared between each other, but also with that of literature Co(II) complexes with similar properties. The electrochemical data led to a series of additional experiments aiming at improving the lower HER activity of one of the two complexes. This endeavor took place via its immobilization on an appropriately modified MoS2 lattice. This system is also electrocatalytically active, opening up the prospect of its wider investigation, in an effort to design a high performance immobilized HER electrocatalyst.
