Summary:
The purpose of this work was to investigate the education of patients with lung cancer, regarding their self-care. Patient education is necessary and allows the patient to actively participate in decision making, to comply with treatment, to be aware of potential side effects and to understand what to do if they occur. Patients make decisions and engage in behaviors that affect their health through self-management or self-care. Disease control and outcomes depend to a large extent on the effectiveness of self-care. In lung cancer, healthcare professionals are required to educate patients on self-management of their situation after all therapeutic interventions, namely surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The psychosocial support of the patient and the caregiver is also important in all stages of the disease, from diagnosis to survival or the end of life. Self-care education for lung cancer patients is becoming an important and integral part of oncological care. Healthcare professionals must invest in patient self-care education for improved patient outcomes.
