The Northern Epirus Struggle (1913-1974): Irregular warfare, politics, memory
Summary:
This doctoral thesis attempts to answer a series of questions about what could be defined as Northern Epirus, how the Northern Epirus Question was born, what the reason for the conflict between Venizelos and King Constantine I in the context of the latter, and how Asia Minor Question, the interwar Greek-Italian friendship and the War of 1940, affected the region. Also, it examines the strength of the associations of the Northern Epirots in Athens during the first post-war decades and the relationship between the Northern Epirus Question and the Cyprus Question in 1950 - 1974. In this context, it focuses on three main aspects that determined the future of Northern Epirus: irregular warfare, politics, and memory.
