Summary:
The thesis entitled "Aspects of the status of women in ancient Etruria and classical Athens" attempts an interpretative approach to the role played by women in two different but successive periods in the Mediterranean. Etrurian culture, while locally integrated into Italian territory and the first expression of Roman culture, exhibited many different characteristics from Greco-Roman culture. My interest focused mainly on the various aspects of the position of women in this cultural society in comparison with women in the classical period, which is the culmination of ancient Greek culture. The reflection of the thesis focuses mainly on the position of women in their family and social life and the way they were treated by the male population. The first part of the paper focuses on the life of Etruscan women and comments mainly on their material culture, while the second part analyses the life of Athenians, for which mainly the literary sources of the period were used.
