Youth and political engagement: paths of the leftist youth in post-war Greece, 1945-1960
Summary:
The main focus of the research is the leftist youth organizations that operated in Greece after the Liberation until the end of the 1950s. The dissertation examines the formation, actions, and rhetoric of these organizations, while also highlighting aspects of youth engagement and participation within them. In other words, it traces how youth was shaped as a political subject within the dense processes of the communist movement's reconstruction after the Occupation and the Civil War, additionally considering the various changes of the period and state policies. Taking the phenomenon of youth Resistance during the Occupation as a landmark, it identifies the continuities and ruptures in the dynamics expressed through EPON, within the context of forming the "unique" Greek postwar paradigm. Simultaneously, through this process, it studies the conditions that brought the "leftist youth" to the forefront as a central subject of the political scene during the "short" decade of the 1960s in Greece.
