Summary:
The aim of this thesis was to study and record the offensive actions of goalkeepers participating in the final phase of EURO 2020, in order to highlight the importance of the role of a goalkeeper in the offensive development of teams in modern football.
Therefore, 618 transfers made by the goalkeepers of the teams participating in this European competition were analyzed. The parameters analyzed are the defensive energy of the goalkeeper from which possession of the ball came, the time period during which his final action took place, the zone of initiation of the attack, as well as whether there was any form of pressure, the part of the body with which the transfer was made, as well as whether it was successful or not. Meanwhile, the possibility the recipient of the transfer had pressure, was analysed , as well as his next action and finally whether there was a final action and its consequential outcome.
Descriptive statistics such as frequency (f and %f), mean (X) and standard deviation (SD) were used for statistical analysis. To compare the frequency of distributions of all manner of independent variables, an x2-test was applied. The significance level was set to p<0.5.
In the last quarter of the first and second half, significantly more actions of the Goalkeeper (19%) are extracted through statistical observations than in the rest of the periods. In the majority of transfers, the goalkeeper used his foot as a method of execution with a percentage of 72.82% against the hand (27.18%). By implication, it turns out that the action of the receiver of the ball after a transfer of the goalkeeper resulted in an attack at a rate of 70.81% (p<0.5).
In conclusion, observing the results of the measurements, it is found that the goalkeeper plays a decisive role in the development of offensive tactics. The results highlight the dominant importance of the need for more active participation of goalkeepers in the offensive tactics they use during training.
