The contribution of Environmental Education in the forests’ protection and sustainability – Case study of terrestrial ecosystem disruption, as it was presented by the Mass Media and websites (Mati, Attica, July 2018)
Summary:
The present PhD Dissertation focuses on the narratives and the way that Mass Media present extreme circumstances, such as the natural disasters that cause human losses. The case study that has been chosen is the wildfire in Mati Attica (July 23, 2018) and the PhD Disseration examines, besides the content of the news’ posts, the linguistic and expression schemes used by the Mass Media to cover the disaster. Moreover, for the needs of the research, it was asked by representatives of authorities and collectivities involved in the natural disaster to give an interview and answer to questions about the Mati fire and issues referring to forest sustainability. Thereafter, a content analysis of their answers is carried out.
The current PhD Dissertation uses the project teaching menthod, which asks the students to take responsibility for their actions and seek solutions to real problems. Project method is implemented for the use of Mass Media in the educational act, in the context of developing an EE Program for Second-grade students on forest sustainability issues. The goal of the Program is for students to develop environmental knowledge and awareness, along with constant ecologic behavior.
