Music and Language: A comparison at the semantic level and a natural conceptual blending in different musical idioms
Summary:
The present thesis constitutes a comprehensive review of the fascinating world of music and language, with an emphasis on the semantic level of these two manifestations of the human spirit. This work analyzes the various dimensions and connections between music and language, exploring how they interact and influence the human mind and society.

From antiquity to the present day, music and language have been two fundamental forms of expression and communication of human culture. While language is the primary medium for expressing ideas and thoughts, music transports us to realms of emotions and expresses the inexplicable melodically.

Through this thesis, we examine the common roots and differences between music and language at the semantic level. We attempt to highlight how these two forms of expression interact and shape the thoughts, emotions, and culture of the human species.

An important tool we analyze for understanding this interaction is the theory of conceptual blending, a cognitive process in which two or more mental spaces combine to create new meanings. Through conceptual blending, we can analyze how musical structures can represent linguistic meanings and how linguistic forms are transferred into musical expression, creating a deeper connection between them.
