Summary:
This paper investigates governance structures, risk management practices, performance monitoring and evaluation, perceived effectiveness and public trust in public sector organizations in Greece. Using a structured questionnaire, the research collects quantitative data from various public hospitals and primary and secondary schools in various cities. Findings show that coordination with central and regional authorities is considered low to moderate, highlighting significant challenges in communication and collaboration.Effective risk management practices are routinely implemented, although their perceived effectiveness varies, suggesting room for improvement. Performance monitoring systems are largely underdeveloped, with most organizations lacking advanced systems for evaluating and reinforcing performance. Furthermore, the perceived effectiveness of governance and risk management is largely neutral, with significant segments of participants expressing low levels of public trust and transparency.The study concludes that strengthening coordination between different levels of government, improving the integration of risk management into strategic planning, developing advanced performance monitoring systems and increasing transparency and communication can lead to more effective public services and greater public trust. These improvements are necessary to create a resilient and flexible public sector that effectively manages risks and responds to the needs of its stakeholders.
