Changes in right ventricular performance - hemodynamic behavior of echocardiographically estimated pulmonary circulation in heart failure patients by SGLT2i addition
Summary:
Purpose: There is some discrepancy in current studies regarding the effect of sodium- glucose cotransporter type 2 (SGLT2i) inhibitors on right ventricular (RV) functions in patients with heart failure (HF). Therefore, the present study focused on determining the effect of SGLT2i on RV functions in such subjects, emphasizing also the hemodynamic behavior of pulmonary circulation calculated by echocardiography.
Material and methods: Electronic searches were performed in the online database Pubmed, Scopus, Google scholar. The keywords used were: 'heart failure', Right Ventricular', 'Pulmonary Hypertension' and 'SGLT2I'. Then from the date 2020 until 2024 it displayed 94 related articles. From these articles we ended up analyzing 7 articles related to the topic.
Results: During the follow-up time frame, patients using SGLT2i had significantly lower systolic pulmonary artery pressure and higher systolic trigeminal annulus systolic displacement values.
Conclusion: Based on existing literature, this is a literature review to evaluate the effect of SGLT2i on RV function in patients with heart failure taking into account the hemodynamic behavior of pulmonary circulation. The findings suggest that SGLT2i may improve RV performance in patients with heart failure.
