Summary:
The thesis describes the concept of "individual character" (otherwise "individuality"), which is the central concept of design, corresponding to originality in copyright law or inventive step in patent law. In the above context, the conditions for the registration and protection of industrial designs under Directive 98/71 on the harmonization of national design laws and Council Regulation 6/2002 on Community registered and unregistered designs are analyzed. Directive 98/71 has been transposed into Greek law by Presidential Decree 259/1997.
