Summary:
The virus of COVID-19 has affected people's lives worldwide and particular in sports. Soccer was affected mainly the performance of players by reducing their endurance after confinement and returning to competitive activities. The aim of the present study is to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on scoring and conceded goals of the six top and six bottom squads in the league ranking, compared to the pre-COVID-19 period, at high level young soccer players U19 Superleague Greece. Six periods were examined, 3 before (pre) COVID-19 and 3 after (post) COVID-19, the goals scored and the goals conceded, at home and away, in the 6 fifteen minutes of the match (0-15, 16- 30, 31-45+, 46-60, 61-75, 76-90+). The significance level was set at p = 0.05. The results showed that in the pre-COVID-19 period there was a significant difference in all variables in all fifteen minutes of the match and at post COVID-19 period the parameters remained stable with small difference at towards the end of the match. In conclusion, this study showed that teams which finished lower position in the championship, after the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, increased the performance as reflected in goals scored and conceded compared with the teams that finished in top positions of championship.
