Το πιάνο στη νεότερη Ελλάδα (τέλη 19ου-αρχές 20ού αιώνα): το πιανιστικό έργο της Μαρίκας Πρωίου - Γουναροπούλου

Piano in modern Greece (late 19th - early 20th century): the pianistic work of Marika Proiou - Gounaropoulou.
Summary:
This thesis attempts to clarify two research questions: the presence of the piano, as a musical instrument, in the Greek area and the research of the life and work of the pianist and composer of the early 20th century, Marika Proiou Gounaropoulou. There are already several contributions in the field of Greek literature for piano. For this reason, the first section of this paper attempts to capture the path of the piano in the Greek area, something that has not been researched so far. The bibliographic research is enriched by the presentation of selected documents (pianos).
The second section emerged during the investigation of the documents in question, among which the piano of Marika Proiou – Gounaropoulou is included. Bibliographically, there is a growing interest in female performers and creators of the 20th century. Of course, the available bibliography focuses primarily on female performers-creators of the second half of the century. For this reason, this paper attempts to deal with a creator of the beginning of the 20th century, who had remained on the sidelines until now. In the case of Marika Proiou - Gounaropoulou, no bibliographic references can be found, which makes this work valuable for further research on this particular person. The research gathers a lot of data, which are mentioned in the introduction. From the study of this particular composer, a short biography of her is presented, a compilation of her piano works, the creation of summary lists of her entire work and a brief analysis of selected works for piano. The research findings are complemented by the recording of the live performance of three of Marika Proiou-Gounaropoulos's piano works in a concert in her memory.
