Summary:
This dissertation examines the policy of the German Third Reich towards the two Orthodox Churches in Ukraine during the Second World War. The thesis consists of seven chapters. Specifically, the first chapter examines the plans of the leaders of Nazi Germany for Ukraine and their relations with Ukrainian nationalists, especially the members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. The second chapter studies the religious revival that occurred during the German occupation; the third chapter focuses on the role of the Orthodox Church during the German occupation of Ukraine; the fourth focuses on the creation of the Ukrainian Autonomous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church; chapter five deals with the policy of the German occupation authorities towards the two Ukrainian Orthodox Churches; chapter six studies the self-serving attitude of the German occupation authorities towards the Orthodox Churches and, finally, the seventh chapter examines the attempt to establish the "new religion" in the Ukrainian occupied territories.
