Polycystic ovary syndrome and bone metabolism
Summary:
The aim of this study is to present the effects of polycystic ovary syndrome and its
unique hormonal alterations on bone metabolism, starting from the early years of bone
formation and peak bone mass accrual and extending to the age of bone remodeling
and age – dependent bone loss. The pathophysiology of pcos along with the physiology
of bone tissue has been briefly explained. Consequently the literature has been
reviewed in search of each hormonal alteration known to be related to pcos and
medication used in clinical practice regarding their impact on bone metabolism and risk
of fracture.
