Αντίσταση στην ινσουλίνη και υπογονιμότητα
Translated title:
Insulin resistance and infertility
Summary:
Insulin resistance is a condition with multiple clinical manifestations, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome and obesity. Through complex mechanisms, insulin resistance and subsequent hyperinsulinemia affect multiple systems, with the cardiovascular system being the predominant one. This literature review focuses on the effects of insulin resistance on fertility, with a focus on polycystic ovary syndrome and obesity, both of which are extensively studied entities. The use of assisted reproductive methods in this group of patients is challenging, as they show a reduced response to assisted reproductive cycles due to poor follicular quality, endometrial hypoallergenicity and implantation. Treatment options start with preconception planning and appropriate counselling.
