Systematic review: Efficacy and safety in the use of nifedipine 3 versus indomethacin for the inhibition of preterm labor
Summary:
Preterm birth is the most common cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality.
Tocolytics are considered a standard treatment for women with threatened preterm
delivery. The aim of this systematic review is to compare the tocolytic effectiveness
of two common used tocolytic drugs nifedipine versus indomethacin on preterm labor
(PTL) as well as to compare the possible neonatal and maternal outcomes associated
with each drug. Results from the review indicated that nifedipine is recommended as
a safe and effective option. The use of indomethacin is recommended before the 32nd
week and for short-term use.
