"Οι αντιλήψεις για τον θάνατο κατά τη ρωμαϊκή και βυζαντινή περίοδο μέσα από τους παπύρους και άλλους φορείς γραφής: η περίπτωση των ιδιωτικών επιστολών"
Translated title:
"Perceptions of death in the Roman and Byzantine period through scrolls and other writing media: the case of private letters"
Summary:
This thesis examines the perceptions of death in the Roman and Byzantine periods in the papyri and other writing media, focusing on the textual genre of private letters. Death, as an irrevocable event, occupied an important place in the lives of people in these periods, as is evident from the special care given to the dead. Private correspondence reveals people's attitudes to this inevitable phenomenon and reveals its family, social, economic, legal, emotional, and religious dimensions. In other words, it is a milestone, as it marks the completion of each person's earthly journey and is closely intertwined with social mores, the role of the family, and belief in the supernatural and the afterlife.
