Summary:
The aim of this paper is to study some forms of folk handicraft. It presents in detail the path that weaving, embroidery, ceramics, pottery, sculpture and silversmithing have taken from antiquity to the present day. The influences they received, the people who stood out, the tools and the raw materials used, the regions of Greece that developed more activity and the works created are some of the topics touched upon. Also, the place of popular culture in education today and how students’ contact with it contributes, among other things, to the cultivation of their cultural awareness. In addition to the bibliographical study of these forms of folk crafts, a practical application of these forms of crafts is made, since a teaching plan is presented. Adapted to the data of an Athenian kindergarten, this two – week project could be a detailed guide for teachers who wish to include folk art in their curriculum. Through various activities, both group and individual, students are introduced to weaving, embroidery, ceramic, pottery, sculpture and silversmithing and benefit in many ways.
