«Uniting voices, changing the world:The hip-hop concert as a political event and the role of the audience
Summary:
This thesis explores the dynamics of hip-hop concerts as political and social events, focusing on the case study of the group Kinoi Thnitoi in Athens. It examines how music and lyrics can influence the audience, with the research based on ethnography and fieldwork, including concert observations, interviews with band members and audience members, as well as lyrical analysis. It investigates how the group utilizes music and lyrics as a means of social awareness and political action, as well as how the concert serves as a space for collective experience and political expression. The research focuses on the role of the audience and its contribution to the artistic and political dimensions of the hip-hop concert. As a political event, the hip-hop concert has the power to mobilize, shape consciousness, and unite participants. Through ethnographic analysis, it is demonstrated that music and lyrics function as tools for social change, while the relationship between artists and audience is based on interaction and shared political perception.
