The impact of e-health on the management of hypertension in pregnant women
Summary:
Introduction: Arterial hypertension is one of the main complications that can occur during pregnancy, increasing the risk of maternal and fetal mortality. E-health has developed rapidly in recent years and has become an important addition to the therapeutic approach of several diseases.
Aim: To investigate the effect of e-health applications on the management of hypertension in pregnant women.
Material and Method: A search of the international literature was carried out from September to December 2024, in the electronic databases Pubmed and Cochrane using the following keywords: «ehealth», «digital health», «telemedicine», «mhealth», «digital health», «pregnancy», «gestation», «maternal health», «hypertension», «high blood pressure», «pre-eclampsia». The criteria for searching for articles were a) Clinical trials or randomized clinical trials b) Studies published in the last 5 years c) Studies written in English d) Studies in which the study population is adults, pregnant women with hypertension and undergoing some intervention with an e-health application, e) Studies available in full text.
Results: From the search of the international literature, a total of 418 studies were found, of which 9 were finally selected to be included in the systematic review. From the analysis of the studies, it was found that the management of arterial hypertension in pregnant women through e-health applications has a positive effect on its self-management, on increasing the compliance of pregnant women and on reducing hospital visits.
Conclusions: The integration of electronic e-health applications in the management of arterial hypertension in pregnant women has a positive impact and their dissemination is considered imperative both in Greece and internationally.
